This is the first lesson in our beginner level Spanish course and we will look at meeting and greeting in Spanish<\/strong>. This course<\/a> will be available free here on the blog and we will eventually progress from beginner level, to intermediate level, through to advanced level. There are so many good reasons to learn Spanish<\/a> and our course will help you achieve your goals and have fun doing it!<\/p>\n

In this Spanish Lesson 1 we will learn how to exchange basic pleasantries in Spanish<\/a>, such as saying hello and goodbye, how to ask someone their name and how to state our own name, and how to ask someone how they are feeling and how to describe how we are feeling.<\/p>\n

Firstly, let\u2019s look at different ways to greet someone in Spanish:<\/h4>\n

Hola: Hello\/Hi
\nBuenos d\u00edas: Good morning
\nBuenas tardes: Good afternoon
\nBuenas noches: Good evening\/night<\/p>\n

Hola can be used at any time of the day. Spanish people usually eat between 2pm and 4pm so buenos d\u00edas is used up until 2pm. After 2pm we use buenas tardes and buenas noches is used after around 9pm until we go to bed.<\/p>\n

If you wish to say that you are pleased to meet someone, you can say:<\/h4>\n

Mucho gusto: Pleased to meet you
\nEncantado\/a: Charmed (you will say Encantado if you are a man and Encantada if you are a woman)<\/p>\n

To ask someone their name you can say:<\/h4>\n

\u00bfC\u00f3mo te llamas?: How are you called?
\n\u00bfCual es tu nombre?: What is your name?<\/p>\n

To respond we will say:<\/h4>\n

Soy…: I am…
\nMe llamo…: I am called…
\nMi nombre es…: My name is…<\/p>\n

To ask someone how they are you can say:<\/h4>\n

\u00bfQu\u00e9 tal?: How are you?
\n\u00bfC\u00f3mo est\u00e1s?: How are you?<\/p>\n

There are many ways to respond. Here are some of the most useful:<\/h4>\n

Bien: Well
\nTodo bien: All is good
\nMuy bien: Very well
\nComo siempre: As always
\nM\u00e1s o menos: Not bad
\nMal: Bad<\/p>\n

If you wish to ask the other person how they are, after they have just asked you, you can say:<\/h4>\n

\u00bfY t\u00fa?: And you?<\/p>\n

When you want to say goodbye to someone in Spanish you can say:<\/h4>\n

Adi\u00f3s: Goodbye
\nChao: Bye
\nHasta luego: See you later
\nNos vemos: See you later
\nHasta pronto: See you soon<\/p>\n
