{"id":53579,"date":"2020-04-25T10:00:06","date_gmt":"2020-04-25T09:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gogoespana.com\/?p=53579"},"modified":"2023-12-14T15:50:29","modified_gmt":"2023-12-14T14:50:29","slug":"spanish-possessive-adjectives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gogoespana.com\/en\/blog\/spanish-possessive-adjectives\/","title":{"rendered":"Spanish Possessive Adjectives: Spanish Lesson 15"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>This the fifteenth lesson in our beginner level Spanish course and we will look at Spanish Possessive Adjectives and practice using them to describe our families.<\/h4>\n<p>We looked <a href=\"https:\/\/gogoespana.com\/en\/blog\/the-family-in-spanish\/\">The Family in Spanish<\/a> in our previous lesson and practiced describing family members using <a href=\"https:\/\/gogoespana.com\/en\/blog\/spanish-verb-ser-to-be\/\">Ser<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/gogoespana.com\/en\/blog\/spanish-verb-estar-to-be\/\">Estar<\/a>. In this lesson we will use the same vocabulary we learned in lesson 14 but learn how to use <strong>Spanish Possessive Adjectives<\/strong> to describe, for example, My father, Your mother, His, brother, Her sister, Our Uncle, Your parents, and Their nieces.<\/p>\n<h4>Spanish Possessive Adjectives:<\/h4>\n<p>Mi\/s: My<br \/>\nTu\/s: Your (singular)<br \/>\nSu\/s: His\/Her\/Its<br \/>\nNuestro\/a\/s: Our<br \/>\nVuestro\/a\/s: Your (group)<br \/>\nSu\/s: Their<\/p>\n<h4>Plurals and masculine and feminine<\/h4>\n<p>You will see that with each of the <strong>Spanish Possessive Adjectives<\/strong> there is the option to add an &#8216;<em>s<\/em>&#8216;. This is to be used whenever you are describing something that is plural.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For example:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mis sobrinos: My nephews (more than one <em>sobrino<\/em>)<br \/>\nMi sobrino: My nephew (one <em>sobrino<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>Tus hermanos: Your brothers (more than one <em>hermano<\/em>)<br \/>\nTu hermano: Your brother (one <em>hermano<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-27065 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/gogoespana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Spanish-possessive-adjectives-and-the-family.jpg\" alt=\"Spanish possessive adjectives and the family\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You will also see that Nuestro and Vuestro have the option to add an &#8216;<em>a<\/em>&#8216;. This is to be used whenever you are describing something\/somethings that is\/are feminine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For example:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nuestro abuelo: Our grandfather<br \/>\nNuestra abuela: Our grandmother<\/p>\n<p>Vuestro t\u00edo: Your uncle<br \/>\nVuestra t\u00eda: Your aunt<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t forget that everything (nouns) in Spanish are either masculine or feminine. We don&#8217;t just have to be aware of masculine and feminine endings when we are describing people, it is the same with inanimate objects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For example:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nuestro coche: Our car (<em>Coche<\/em> is a masculine noun in Spanish)<br \/>\nNuestra casa: Our house (<em>Casa<\/em> is a feminine noun in Spanish)<\/p>\n<h4>Let&#8217;s practice<\/h4>\n<p>Now we are going to practice using <strong>Spanish Possessive Adjectives<\/strong> to describe family members. We are going to make some sentences to describe El rey Felipe de Espa\u00f1a (King Felipe of Spain):<\/p>\n<p>Su nombre es Felipe: His name is Felipe<br \/>\n\u00c9l es el rey de Espa\u00f1a: He is the King of Spain<br \/>\n\u00c9l tiene cincuenta y un a\u00f1os: He is fifty one years old<br \/>\nSu mujer es Letizia: His wife is Letizia<br \/>\n\u00c9l es espa\u00f1ol: He is Spanish<br \/>\nSu casa est\u00e1 en Madrid: His house is in Madrid<br \/>\nSus padres son Juan Carlos y Sof\u00eda: His parents are Juan Carlos and Sof\u00eda<br \/>\n\u00c9l tiene dos hermanas, Elena y Cristina: He has two sisters, Elena &#038; Cristina<br \/>\nSus hijas son Leonor y Sof\u00eda: His daughters are Leonor &#038; Sof\u00eda<\/p>\n<p>That is all for this lesson about <strong>Spanish Possessive Adjectives<\/strong>.
