Keep reading to find out who needs to get a driver\u2019s license in Spain and how to get one.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>How to Get a Spanish Driver License: EU\/EEA-citizens<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The minimum age for driving in Spain is 18, like most other European countries.<\/p>\n<p>People from countries with lower driving age limits won\u2019t be allowed to drive here!<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re from an EU or EEA country, you can use the driver\u2019s license from your home country for 2 years without switching to a Spanish driver license.<\/p>\n<p>However, you must register with the \u201c<em>Registro Central de Conductores e Infractores<\/em>\u201d within your first 6 months in Spain.<\/p>\n<p>After registering, you\u2019ll need to complete a medical exam to make sure you\u2019re healthy enough for safe <strong>driving in Spain<\/strong>! After two years, you\u2019ll need to apply for a Spanish driver license (or face huge fines).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_22499\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-22499\" style=\"width: 848px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-22499 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/gogoespana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/spanish-drivers-license.jpg\" alt=\"spanish driver license\" width=\"848\" height=\"565\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-22499\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Make sure you&#8217;ve got permission to drive before you plan a Spanish road trip!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>To apply for the Spanish driver license, EU\/EEA-country citizens need to take the following documents to the \u201c<em>Jefatura Provincial de Tr\u00e1fico<\/em>\u201d to get your <strong>Spanish license<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An application form<\/li>\n<li>Valid passport\/national identity card<\/li>\n<li>Your <a href=\"https:\/\/gogoespana.com\/en\/blog\/how-to-get-a-nie-number-in-spain\">NIE<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Current valid driver\u2019s license<\/li>\n<li>Two small passport photos<\/li>\n<li>A signed declaration that you have not been banned or suspended from driving<\/li>\n<li>A signed declaration that you do not hold a driver\u2019s license in another country<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>How to Get a Spanish Driver License: Citizens from Outside the EU<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re from a country outside of the EU, you can use your native driver\u2019s license for up to 6 months without hassle.<\/p>\n<p>The 6-month period begins from the moment you <a href=\"https:\/\/gogoespana.com\/en\/blog\/spanish-residence-card-tie\/\">apply for your TIE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, if your driver\u2019s license was not issued in a <a href=\"https:\/\/gogoespana.com\/en\/blog\/list-of-spanish-speaking-countries\/\">Spanish-speaking country<\/a>, you need to keep an official translation or International Driver\u2019s Permit (IDP) with you.<\/p>\n<p>The IDP should be acquired before entering Spain.
